CHARLIE FARLEY SERIES

These highly acclaimed Charlie Farley stories are a series of quality storybooks that support parents and teachers to raise children’s self-esteem.

They foster a child’s love of reading and books through delightful illustrations and well-written rhyme, which extends their vocabulary.

HOW CHARLIE FOUND A HOME ON THE PAGE

We worked with a specialised printer of children’s books to select the most suitable quality paper to make Charlie feel at home on the page. Our choice of paper was 170gsm with a silk touch. This subtle textured finish compliments how colours pop out on the page. It really does feel like the paper comes alive in your hands.

It was important for the Charlie Farley story to have an interactive part, one that continues the theme of each tale. Each book has an activity section, including drawing guides, colouring pages, questions, and further learning suggestions. This helpful resource is for children of all ages, parents, carers, and teachers.

A good example of how these activity sections complement each story theme is It’s Okay To Feel Sad, Charlie Farley! Working carefully with child bereavement care experts, this book has become a valuable and highly rated resource to help children talk about death, especially those grieving for a person or a pet. Another good example is in Oh No Charlie Farley!, where we show how a specific page spread developed during the creative process.

STAGE ONE

First, Monika starts with a simple sketch, to represent Elaine ís words into images. It ís very messy, keeps it fun and easy to change if she finds a better way to show this scene.

STAGE TWO

Next, she draws the page in more detail and colours! Before, the characters didn’t look like anyone, but now they must be Charlie and his friends. Can you see if anything else changed in this scene?

STAGE THREE

Now you can clearly see what was missing in the previous scene. In this page, Elaine wanted the puppy to be partially lost in the bushes. So, Monika drew him right back in with plenty of trees around.

STAGE FOUR

Although it looks like Monika is taking a step back, this is a technical stage. You can now impress your parents and teachers with words like perspective, form and composition. Monika is making sure this scene makes you feel like you are there with Charlie.

STAGE FIVE

And finally, Monika paints and paints and paints until she feels like Charlie is jumping off the page right into her arms! She hopes you feel it too!
